Helsinki Samba Carnaval 2026
Finland’s largest carnival celebration: samba, parade, music, dance, workshops and a free urban programme in central Helsinki.
Helsinki Samba Carnaval 2026 will take place in Helsinki from 8 to 14 June, turning the city centre into a colourful carnival area with Brazilian rhythms, dance, costumes and performances by samba schools. The annual event has been organised since 1991 and is considered Finland’s largest carnival event. According to the organisers, it attracts up to 40,000 spectators and brings together Helsinki residents and tourists. At the start of the week, 8–11 June, samba workshops and open classes are planned, giving visitors a chance to learn about carnival culture, try dance moves and experience the festive atmosphere even without previous experience. On Thursday, 11 June, the carnival programme will also appear at Musiikkitalo as part of the FIFA Fan Zone, continuing in the evening at Ravintola Bryggeri. On Friday, 12 June, the official opening of Helsinki Samba Carnaval will take place on Espa Stage. The evening programme includes performances, the announcement of the fantasy costume competition results and the transition to the evening part, Clube do Carnaval, at Ravintola Bryggeri. The main carnival day is Saturday, 13 June. From 11:00, the daytime city programme begins at Senaatintori with stage performances, carnival atmosphere on the square, participant preparations and a chance to see costumes, musicians and dancers before the parade. At 15:00, the large carnival parade starts from Senaatintori. The route goes along Unioninkatu, Esplanadi, Mannerheimintie and Aleksanterinkatu. This is the most spectacular part of the festival, with samba schools, drummers, dancers, floats and bright costumes moving through the streets of Helsinki. The daytime programme is suitable for the whole family and is free for everyone. It is a good way to spend a summer day in central Helsinki, watch the parade, hear live samba rhythms and see one of the city’s most colourful early-summer traditions. In the evening of 13 June, the celebration continues at Kulttuuritehdas Korjaamo: Pre Baile starts on the terrace at 18:00 with free entry, and the main Baile do Carnaval party takes place in Vaunusali from 21:00 to 03:00. This part of the programme is ticketed: advance tickets are sold through Lippu.fi from €24.60, and door tickets cost €25 if available.
