About
Pokkinen Park, known in Finnish as Pokkisenpuisto, is a public park in central Oulu. It is located near the Oulujoki river delta and the historic Pokkinen area, within walking distance of the city centre, the waterfront and several cultural venues.
The park has historical importance for Oulu. In the Pokkisenpuisto area, the Plaanaoja stream flows into the Oulujoki river delta, and the old harbour of Oulu was once located nearby before it was moved to Toppilansalmi in the 18th century. The park itself was created in the early 1870s after road bridges were built across the Oulujoki river. Today, the park features walking paths, green areas, benches and the sculpture Kalasääski ja lohi by Oskari Jauhiainen.
